Glass and Ceramic Coatings

Van Technologies offers UV curable coatings specifically designed for application on glass or ceramic.  They range from clear abrasion resistant coatings designed to protect surface from stains and scratches, to opacification coatings designed for use during the glass tinting process.

Here are the Glass and Ceramic Coatings available at Van Technologies:

Radur 400

Radur 400 is a 100% solids UV curable coating designed to exhibit excellent adhesion to ceramic tile, even at elevated temperatures of 170° C (340° F).  The incorporation of an adhesion promoter is required to obtain these properties and is post added to the Radur 400.  This adhesion promoter is stable in solution.  Once applied, the Radur 400 flows and levels to form a smooth uniform finish.  This coating is typically cured with an “H” or “D” type Fusion UV lamp with cure speeds dependent on the number and types of lamps used, as well as intensity.  Cure speed modifications can be made if needed.  Post cure heat helps to enhance the adhesion properties.  The Radur 400 can be applied by spray or dip methods with relative ease.  Alternative methods may also be applicable.

Radur 401

Radur 401 is an environmentally compliant UV curable opacification coating for glass.  Radur 401, once cured, exhibits less than 1% visible light transmission.  At a wet coating thickness of 0.80 mils, the coating can be cured at a rate of 50 ft/min using a 400 watt Fusion UV lamp.  Radur 401 passes strict physical testing and, for example, will pass adhesion after being subjected to a five hour boil test, and a 240 hour, at 50°C soak test when it is applied over the Radur GL Primer.   It is extremely scratch resistant and can be bonded to a number of other substrates.  Other formulations of this coating are possible, making it very adaptable in a number of other applications, including spray, dip and roll coating methods.  Radur 401 is available in standard black and gray.

Radur 402

Radur 402 is an environmentally compliant UV curable urethane coating with properties similar to the Radur 301 for metal.   Radur 402 cures rapidly and passes crosshatch tape tests to glass and a number of metal surfaces, including brass, without the need for a primer.  Radur 402 is a non-yellowing coating to protect the surface from the suns ultraviolet rays.  It has excellent flow out at thin coat weights and will protect glass from stains and abrasions.  This coating and can be easily sprayed, dipped, or curtain coat applied.  Modifications of this formulation are possible.

Radur-GL Primer

Radur-GL Primer is a water based active silane primer, that once cured, promotes exceptional adhesion for the Radur 401 topcoat.   Radur-GL Primer is a two component system with a pot life of 24 hours.  It bonds very well to a number of UV curable topcoats making it an excellent primer when application calls for additional adhesion.  It can be applied by a number of applications, including spray, dip and roll coating methods.
