Water Based Wood Topcoats


Van Technologies has created a line of topcoats that far exceed the performance of any other water based topcoats for today's market.  These topcoats are clear and durable and when combined with the appropriate sealer system, exhibit no secondary grain raise. They are the newest, highest quality waterborne coatings on the market.  All of our water based wood topcoat series are available in satin, semi-gloss, and high gloss. 

Here are the water based topcoats that Van Technologies currently carries:



VanAqua-280 Water Based Wood Topcoat

The VanAqua-280 series is an outstanding water based acrylic topcoat. This topcoat has a very smooth and clear appearance and is very low  in V.O.C. and H.A.P. levels. VanAqua-280 is a great all purpose topcoat. When used with a catalyst available from Van Technologies, it passes KCMA requirements.  This topcoat is tough enough for furniture, cabinets, doors and millwork applications.  VanAqua-280 acrylic should be applied over VanAqua-240 clear wood sealer for best performance, and a highly compliant operation!  The VanAqua-280 series water based wood topcoat is designed to be used as an air dry economical wood topcoat.  The recommended application of VanAqua-280 water based wood topcoat is either by spray, brush, or roller coating methods although others may be appropriate.  When used with VanAqua-240 wood sealer as a system, the finished surface has minimal grain raise and it dries fast at normal room temperatures and humidity (within 15 to 30 minutes).  The properties of VanAqua-280 series acrylic topcoat may be enhanced by the use of  V-Cat 110 crosslinker.  The crosslinker, increases water and chemical resistance as well as adhesion properties. 



VanAqua-281 Water Based White Wood Topcoat

VanAqua-281 Water based White Wood Topcoat is another outstanding acrylic topcoat.  This topcoat has a smooth and opaque white appearance and can also be tinted with most universal tint systems.  It has very low V.O.C. and H.A.P. levels.  When used with a catalyst from Van Technologies, it passes KCMA requirements.  It's a great finish for furniture, cabinets, doors and millwork applications.  VanAqua-281 should be applied over VanAqua-240 clear wood sealer or VanAqua-200WP white primer for best performance.    The VanAqua-281 water based white wood topcoat is designed to be used as an air dry economical wood topcoat.  The recommended application of VanAqua-281 water based white wood topcoat is either by spray, brush, or roller coating methods although other methods may be appropriate.  When used with VanAqua-240 wood sealer as a system, the finished surface has minimal grain raise and it dries fast at normal room temperatures and humidity (within 15 to 30 minutes).  The properties of VanAqua-281 may be enhanced by the use of V-Cat 110 crosslinker.  The crosslinker, increases water and chemical resistance as well as adhesion properties.  



VanAqua-282 Water Based Wood Topcoat

The VanAqua-282 water based wood topcoat is designed to be used as an air dry, economical wood topcoat.  It is a quality acrylic topcoat that when used with the VanAqua-240 wood sealer will offer the wood finisher a highly compliant operation!  The VanAqua-282 topcoat is similar to the VanAqua-280 series, however the VanAqua-282 has been specifically designed for use on vertical surfaces as it provides better sag resistance than the VanAqua-280 series topcoat.  Sag resistance at an 8 mil coating application can be achieved!    The recommended application of VanAqua-282 water based wood topcoat is either by spray, brush, or roller coating methods although others may be appropriate.  When used with VanAqua-240 wood sealer as a system, the finished surface has minimal grain raise and it dries fast at normal room temperatures and humidity (within 15 to 30 minutes).



VanAqua-480 Water Based Wood Topcoat

The VanAqua-480 series water based topcoat is a low V.O.C. and zero H.A.P. topcoat that has been specifically formulated to provide the highest clarity of any water based topcoat, with no residual haze or milky appearance observed.  Its other features include hardness, scratch and abrasion resistance, chemical and water resistance and excellent adhesion.  It dries fast at normal room temperatures and humidity (within 15 to 30 minutes) with maximum hardness within 3-7 days.  VanAqua-480 is available in satin, semi-gloss and gloss finish.  Formulated to be low in V.O.C.'s, VanAqua-480 will meet the maximum level of environmental compliance when used as a system with VanAqua-240 ultra low V.O.C. wood sealer.  For optimum performance the surface application should be sealed with VanAqua-240, VanAqua-280 or an initial application of VanAqua-480 itself.  After the sealer layer dries, topcoat with VanAqua-480.   The VanAqua topcoats can be applied using many methods including spray, brush and roller.



VanAqua-482 Water Based Topcoat

The VanAqua-482 series is similar to the VanAqua-480 urethane topcoat series, but the VanAqua-482 has been specifically designed for use on vertical surfaces as it provides better sag resistance than the standard VanAqua-480 series topcoats.  VanAqua-482    is a low V.O.C and zero H.A.P topcoat that has been formulated to provide the highest clarity of any water based topcoat, with no residual haze or milky appearance.    Its other features include hardness, scratch and abrasion resistance, chemical and water resistance and excellent adhesion.  VanAqua-482 exhibits excellent sag resistance at an 8 mil coating application!  It dries fast at normal room temperatures and humidity (within 15 to 30 minutes) with maximum hardness within 3-7 days.  Formulated specifically for low V.O.C.'s, VanAqua-482 will meet the maximum level of environmental compliance when used as a system with VanAqua-240 wood sealer.

 

VanAqua-485 Water Based Wood Topcoat

VanAqua-485 topcoat is our outstanding aliphatic urethane topcoat, specifically formulated to provide the highest clarity of any water based topcoat, with no residual haze or milky appearance observed. This high quality non-yellowing topcoat combines a  low V.O.C. and very low H.A.P. content with outstanding physical properties, such as hardness, scratch and abrasion resistance, chemical and water resistance and excellent adhesion.  This is an extremely durable coating used in hardwood floor, furniture, cabinet, door and millwork companies. The aliphatic's self-crosslinking nature provides excellent resistance to UV energy which causes wood and other coatings to yellow over time.  Add V-Cat 115 optional crosslinker from Van Technologies and this new aliphatic urethane can be used on a high traffic areas including sports floor applications!  VanAqua-485 aliphatic urethane should be applied over VanAqua-245 aliphatic clear wood sealer for best results.



VanEx-680 Exterior Wood Topcoat

VanEx-680 is an exterior wood topcoat that is low in V.O.C.'s and has zero H.A.P.'s.  It has been specifically formulated to provide the ultimate in weathering resistance for a clear coating.  Its other features include flexibility, water resistance and excellent adhesion.  Formulated specifically to be low in V.O.C.'s, VanEx-680 will meet the maximum level of environmental compliance when used as a system with VanEx-640 ultra low V.O.C. wood sealer.  For optimum performance the surface should be sealed with VanEx-640.    The VanEx-680 topcoat can be applied using many methods including spray, brush and roller.
